Happy Valentine’s Parent Care Givers:
When we are children we act up, act out, speak out, step on toes, throw up, misspend , lie, talk back, sneak, spy on, disappoint , enrage, anger, confuse, pick our noses, pee on our parents best outfit, mark up the living room walls with crayons, etc. In fact, we even take great pleasure in in doing all types of little irritating, selfish things because we try to see how much we can get away with. I am laughing as I write this.
Our parents try to breathe deeply and/or reprimand, threaten and punish us. There also may be times when they just lose it! After we become adults we look back, reminisce, laugh and feel embarrassed and maybe even ashamed as we try to make up for it. For many adult children they get to payback, remember and give back the love by being care givers to very elderly parents. I can’t imagine what it’s like to take care of an adult parent who has lost their ability to care of their self emotionally, physically and psychologically.
My heart is filled with amazement and love for those who I know that are doing it without complaining, not getting a break and get to give back to those who gave to them
On this Meaningful Monday I want to celebrate by mentally sending you a Valentine card and flowers as a way of letting you know that you are loved and appreciated, even if the parents you are caring for are not able to do so.
Have a happy, love-giving Meaningful Monday!
