Unanswered Dreams of Our Mothers

Greetings Family:

I hope that you enjoyed your Mother’s Day and that you will continue to celebrate in the feminine, spiritual energy with me that is the mother.  Yemonja is the ability that all living things have to birth new ideas, to nurture all living things and the potential for giving life.  Both men and women have the ability of the mother, since we all have her essence.

Let’s dedicate this day to the unanswered dreams of our mothers.

Let’s imagine our mothers as little girls playing house with their dolls and sometimes even tea sets.

Let’s imagine them without their innocence lost.

Let’s imagine them as young women, afraid and insecure.  Let’s imagine them overcoming these insecurities and blossoming into beautiful women; women who had dreams, plans and hopes for a glorious life.  Let’s envision them achieving most of their hopes and dreams.  Many of them married and fulfilled their wishes.  Some became mothers without marriage.  Some never conceived and others conceived and lost.  Some chose never to marry or conceive.

Let’s imagine what it must have been for them at your age and how they would handle what you are challenged and blessed with today.

Let’s visualize our mothers walking beside, under, over and all around us; reminding us of their connection and essence in us; and reminding us that we too have the ability and right to have dreams.

The dreams that have been unanswered for us-still have the essence for life.  We can all choose to use the essence of life that was given to us by our mothers to create and manifest a reality.

Today let’s light a candle on this Moon’s Day, Yemonja Day or Monday in honor the essence of our life…Our Mothers. (Meaningful Monday, 2010)

Meaningful Mondays Monday May 6, 2013

Greetings Family:

I pray that all is well with you. On most Monday’s I post an excerpt from my book Meaningful Mondays (2008). It is my desire that from these excerpts, you will connect to something personal in your own experience and find something meaningful that you can take with you as you go forth into the week ahead of you.  Each excerpt is drawn from one of my own personal experiences as I have sought to learn and still continue to learn what Spirit is trying to communicate to me.  Whether past or present, the lessons persist.  For today’s entry, I am taking notes from the past and pray that you too will draw purposeful and transformative lessons; some that may include listening to the messages that come from Spirit and following the instruction you are given there within.  Last week I wrote about how we can implement the energy that is Ogun. This week I am flashing back to my Teaching Tuesday series with a Pataki (story) about Ogun.

Enjoy!

Connecting to Ogun

This Meaningful Monday we continue into April with a celebration honoring Ogun.  Ogun is the energy that governs courage, lack of fear, bodily harm, zealousness, and is motivated by situations that involve challenges or hard and dangerous work.  Ogun’s colors are red, green, black and white.  The planet governed is Mars and Tuesday is the day of celebration.  His number is #3 and the governing sign is Aries.  Ogun’s power is manifested through using metal, knives, or tools of hunting, also for cleansing and removing of negative energy and cutting away obstructions from the aura.

On the new moon, take a large green candle (in the jar); rinse the outside of the jar with water (the lower half first, then the upper half).  Proceed to write an affirmation of what work, job or position you want to receive and put this paper under the candle and allow it to burn for 7 days.  Every morning and evening, before going to bed, you should say the affirmation again such as, “I am ready and open to receive my blessing which is __________(here stat your desire)”.  After the 7 days, a bath should be prepared with white flower petals, ½ tsp. of honey and the water from a coconut that has been broken open.  Proceed to take your regular shower and then pour this mixture over your head and body while you give thanks to your guardian spirit or guardian angel.  The uses of herbs such as pine, cedar wood oil, frankincense or myrrh are good essences or herbs to be used when confronting dangerous situations.  Making a bath of holly, pine and cedar leaves allows one to become heated, aggressive, commanding and compelling.  This ritual can be used when you are going to look for a new job, changing career, going to court or starting a new relationship as well as for money and entrepreneurship.  (Household Guide for Yoruba Spiritual Wellness, pg. 29)
